My youngest daughter is an art student. She wanted to go to the Modern Museum of Art so we planned a day in New York City. We took a train in to Grand Central and planned a walking route to visit some of the things in the neighborhood. The first stop was Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. There’s a lot of construction and scaffolding..inside and out.
Then we went to the Museum. There was a statue with a live beehive for a head in the courtyard.
My fun cousin Stacey recommended ‘Serendipity’ for lunch. We had to backtrack a few blocks to get there but it was worth it!
Back to 5th Avenue..I wanted to look at the window displays and visit Fao Schwartz one last time before it closes on July 15
My favorite city! Love the statue with the bee-hive head.

That bee hive was really cool. I got as close as I was allowed but I wish I could have taken a closer shot!

Well, I suppose they didn’t want people getting too close, upsetting the bees, and then getting stung. Still, it must have been something to see.

What a wonderful day! That treat looked yummy. Oh to be young enough to eat such decadence. 😀 Thanks for sharing your visit!

The trick is… Encourage them to order it and then grab a spoon!

Wise! I was thinking it was something that needed to be shared. 🙂

We had a really great time! I often wonder what it must be like to grow up there.

Growing up as a small child in NYC my favorite memory is when my dad would take us to the famous Horn & Hardart Automat for lunch. After depositing some change it seemed almost magical to me that a little glass door would open and out would come my chosen macaroni & cheese all warm and bubbly…..
So after moving to CT, I was naturally addicted to the Horn & Hardart Children’s Hour radio program ever Sunday morning, all sooooo many years ago………….

I liked the MOMA very much. The Metropolitan is my favorite museum in New York. Maybe it is unfair of me to compare them. Either way, it was a great daughter day!

Not been to NY and not sure if I ever will but I love seeing photos of such places. Yours definitely give a different impression from what I’ve seen on the TV. Or even what I’ve seen from my parents’ photos. Thanks for showing us!

That’s interesting, Helen. London was very different for me in person than how I expected it to be from television and books.

I should think that is true of anywhere…. I saw an even more different side to London last time I went in May myself.

Thank you for bringing back memories of NYC. A great city; I loved every minute of my 3 weeks there. So envious of your being so close to it.

Having spent 3 weeks there, you are probably more familiar with New York City than I am! Is it very different from Sydney?

Sydney is still growing up; if NYC is a superstar then Sydney is a talented child. It’s pretty and wannabe a star but so far it’s still naïve.

Lol, Julie! I think it’s fun seeing places through a regular person’s eyes… Another reason I love to read blogs:)

Love that mosaic/shoe photo – I see lots of inspiration for future Cynthia art projects in those photos. Maybe some Jodie projects, too.

A great trip, well photographed; and an enticing lunch venue. Will we get to see some of your daughter’s work?
