Yesterday I just about finished the spring cleaning on the back gardens. This morning we visited my middle daughter. Last summer she got married and moved to a city. Luckily, there’s some outdoor space and she and her new husband made it really inviting! They refurbished an old patio set of mine. She sewed up some fabric pillows and he filled buckets from a home improvement store with pots of herbs. We had brunch on their patio… vegetable frittata, fresh fruit and croissants. It was a great visit. I miss my daughter and wish that she didn’t live so far away (I exagerate; it’s less than 1 1/2 hours away) but it’s good to see that she and her husband are making such a nice life of their own.
How inviting! I love the herbs on the wall.

Me too. I like how they brought urban/ organic elements together. It was a fun day.

What a nice patio/deck they have. Room for a table and chairs, a really inviting chaise lounge and chairs. That is nice. I bet she misses living in the country, too! But, she did find a very nice place with an outdoor area. When those trees fill out, it looks like they will have complete privacy and no grass to cut. I agree with you, though, an hour and a half is just a little too long to stop over for a quick chat and coffee.

Fun for them now that they’re young. They live in a trendy neighborhood with lots of restaurants and shops. They can walk to the train station and be in Manhattan in no time. Maybe at some point she’ll miss the country!

My daughter left for college in Brooklyn almost 6 years ago & never looked back. Still living there & working in Manhattan – 2 hours away from us. Sigh, I feel ya. She does love her weekends home here in the country, though.

Once they go off to school, everything changes. Still makes me sad. I need more time to get used to it, lol. Brooklyn is so trendy now. Lots of good food there (something I never stop thinking about). I haven’t been there since I was a kid… I had an Uncle with a gold front tooth that lived there.

An uncle with a gold front tooth . . . you’re a riot.

I once saw a man in Chicago who had a gold front tooth with a diamond set in it. The diamond really sparkled!

Thanks! She is creative in lots of ways that I am not.. She’s a high school English teacher and her first love is writing. She plays piano beautifully too.

Those pictures look like they came straight out of a house and garden magazine. It’s a talent to create those outdoor rooms. Well done, daughter; well taught, Mum.

Yes – my first thought was: Cynthia passed on the homemaking gene. It’s all lovely.

Such an inviting outside bit of space. It looks beautiful and I’m sure it gave a great sense of happiness being sat out there, enjoying the food, sun, warmth, and the company.

It is good to see them making a good life. Love the patio decor. What kind of dog is that? Reminds me of my daughter’s.

Hi Cynthia! That is Harvey, he is a black pug. Next month he’ll be 10 years old.

Aha! Harvey looks a lot like our daughter’s Chug – pug and chihuahua mix.
