Here is a recipe for an inexpensive, all natural, effective and versatile cleanser that I have been using for years. Hopefully, most people are aware of the negative impact harsh chemical and antibacterial, commercial cleansers can have on our health and our environment. Vinegar based cleaners are a healthy option but personally, I don’t like the smell of vinegar very much. This is also environmentally friendly, has no harsh chemicals, and is so simple to make! It’s great for the kitchen as well as the bathroom, particularly bathtubs and sinks.
Ingredients: 2 cups Borax
1/4 cup liquid soap
1/4 cup water
Just combine these ingredients and mix well. Store in a sealed container. If it gets dry, just add a little water and a dollop of liquid soap. When using, apply a small amount of cleanser to your sponge or cloth and start scrubbing!!
Borax is available at most grocery and some big box stores. It is sold as a laundry booster and is inexpensive. Borax is a natural mineral salt! Lots of people are surprised to learn that.
For liquid soap, you can use a natural dish detergent or Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap. If you want to add essential oils to your cleanser, that is nice too, although not necessary. Tea tree, having naturally occurring anti-fungal as well as antibacterial properties is a good choice for the bathroom. Orange essential oil is also a good choice for cleansers. My favorite is lavender. I use it in everything that I make; my cleanser, laundry detergent, body creams, air fresheners….but more on that later. In the meantime, I hope you try this cleanser and that you love it as much as I do!
